January 1 – 7, 1900

Jan 1: 2 below zero in morning. Cloudy all day. Very cold for the past week. 15 below zero one morning. Good sleighing from the 25th of Dec. Had been some snow before this. The family met at Mothers for New Years. Were all present but Bur’s family and Glen Weeks.

 Jan 2: 10 above zero in the morning. Wind blew hard all day, snowed some. I was about all day. Family all well.

 Jan 3: 10 above zero in the morning. Cloudy all day. Good sleighing. I worked about the house. All well.

Jan 4: 8 above zero in the morning. Fair all day. Thawed some in the afternoon. Edith and I went to the Valley. I bought a pair of rubber boots of Seweitzer for $2.60. Family all well.

Jan 5: 20 above zero in the morning. Cloudy all day. Thawed some in the afternoon. Good sleighing. About 12 teams drawing logs to Mill.

Jan 6: 24 above zero in morning. Cloudy and warm. All well.

Jan 7: 30 above zero in morning. Cloudy and warm. Rained in the afternoon. Sleighing about gone.

January 8 – 14, 1900

Jan 8: 20 above zero in morning. Cloudy all day. Cold air all day. Sleighing thin. Family all well.

Jan 9: 4 above zero in morning. Pleasant all day. Warm in the afternoon. All well.

Jan 10: Warm and raining in the morning, colder at night. I went to Westfield on the train in the afternoon. Snow all gon(e) about Westfield.

Jan 11: 12 above zero in morning. Snowed hard and wind blew all the afternoon. I drew a load of hay for the sheep in the morning. About out now. All well.

Jan 12: 20 above zero in morning. Cloudy. Good sleighing about 4 inches of snow fell. Log teams out again. All well.

Jan 13: 16 above zero in the morning. Cloudy. Good sleighing. Bought 40 bushels of oats of Mary English to feed. Paid 35 cts per Bus. delivered. Family all well.

Jan 14: 20 above zero. Snowed some all day. Father and I went to Harrison Valley to meeting in the Evening.

January 15 – 21, 1900

Jan 15: Warm, thawed all day. Sleighing getting thin.  All well.

Jan 16: Warm in for{e}noon colder in the afternoon. Gus Thompson helped me cut some dry hemlock logs in the I.O.O.F. {Odd Fellows) Park.

Jan 17: 20 above zero. Pleasant. Cared for the last of my pressed hay. Worked on John Hall’s house in afternoon. Received a letter from Wayne saying he had found Christ. Praise the Lord for this.

Jan 18: Warm, thawed some. Sleighing thin. Worked on Hall Job. Went to a Supper furnished by the Rebekahs in the evening. All Well.

Jan 19: Warm and rainy. Sleighing all gone. Family all well.

Jan 20: Very warm, rained all day. Streams high. Snow about all gone. I attend the annual Trustee meeting at the Church in the afternoon. Had a very nice meeting.

Jan 21: 24 above zero. Pleasant all day. Family all well.

January 22 – 28, 1900

Jan 22: 20 above zero. Very nice day. I went to Harrison Valley in the afternoon. All Well. Roads good, but little mud.

Jan 23: Colder. Freezing some at night. (Family all well.)

Jan 24: 12 above zero in the morning. Warmer in the afternoon. I attended a bee at the church to fix the sheds, cover the wood pile, and repair the  windows and seats. (All well)

Jan 25: Warm and raining in the morning, colder in the afternoon. Howard sick tonight. I think it is worms. Temperence lecture at the church by Cushing. It was very good.

Jan 26: Warmer, freezing some at night. Family all well. Wayne called tonight.

Jan 27: Cold all day. Snowing some tonight. Family all well.

Jan 28: 2 above zero in the morning. cold all day. No sleighing yet. All well.

January 29 – February 4, 1900

Jan 29: 2 above zero in the morning. Cold all day. No sleighing yet. All well.

Jan 30: 4 above zero in morning. Warm in the afternoon. I went to the Valley.  Bought new tea kettle, new pants & shirts. All well.

Jan 31: Cold all day. 6 below zero tonight, but little snow. No sleighing.

Feb 1: Very cold. Wind blew hard. Very bad day to be out in. 8 below zero. All well.

Feb 2: Cold all day. 8 below zero in the morning. Warmer tonight. All well.

Feb 3: 2 above zero in the morning. Warmer in the afternoon. The people was shaeked by a loud explosion about 8 o’clock in the evening. Reported to be the glycerine works in Wellsville, NY.

Feb 4: Not very cold. Thawed all day, 6 below freezing tonight. No sleighing yet, but little snow in the fields. Family all well except haveing colds.

February 5 – 11, 1900

Feb 5: Not very cold. Snowed some in the night. I went to Ulysses in the afternoon. Good sleighing around Ulysses but no sleighing here.

Feb 6: Warmer, Thawed very little. Some more snow. Drew some hemlock logs from the Park to the Mill.

Feb 7: Warm and rainy. Temperence lecture in the evening.

Feb 8: Warm and rainy. Snow all gone. Road muddy.

Feb 9: Colder. Wind blew very hard. Plesent in the afternoon. Family all well.

Feb 10: Not very cold. Plesent all day. Freezing some tonight. Family well.

Feb 11: Warm, very nice day. 40 above zero at noon. Snow all gone. Very much like April weather.

February 12 – 18, 1900

Feb 12: Colder. Cloudy and damp. Raining hard tonight. Family all well.

Feb 13: Warm and raining. Rained hard all the forenoon, colder tonight. Karl sick a bed with gripp. Minnie sick in bed with pneumonia. I stay a part of the night with them.

Feb 14: Colder. Froze up hard. Prayer meeting tonight. I am to lead. Had a good meeting. About 35 out.

Feb 15: Cold day. Snowed a little. Karl & Minnie better. Family all well.

Feb 16: Cold day. No sleighing. 4 above zero in the morning.

Feb 17: Cold all day, about zero tonight. Chet’s men drew two load of hay from farm. 8 3/4 pound girl came today 12:30 noon. Anna and babe comfortable tonight. Mae {baby’s name}

Feb 18: Very cold. About zero tonight. No sleighing. Sister Kate stayed with Anna tonight. Family comfortable.

February 19 – 25, 1900

Feb 19: Cold, raw day. Wind blew hard. Very cold tonight.

Feb 20: Warmer, very plesent. Thawed in the afternoon. I drove down to Rexfords. Clara came home with me, will stay tonight. Township election today. Vote on License for County.

Feb 21: Warm, raining tonight. Family doing well. Clara went home on the train. County went for license. To bad.

Feb 22: Warm, rained some. Streams very high. Some larg{e} ice chunks. Colder tonight. Virgil {?} Bars commenced work here today.

Feb 23: Cold and freezing. Snowed some in the night. No sleighing yet. Anna and baby doing well.

Feb 24: Warm and snowing, rain in the afternoon. Colder at night. I came home from Lodge at 11:30. Cold wind blew very hard.

Feb 25: Very cold. 8 below zero. Wind blew very hard, the coldest morning this winter. Water froze up and burst the pipe at the farm. Zero all day. Very strond wind. Very cold tonight. Wind blowing hard. (Very cold).

Feb 26 – March 4, 1900

Feb 26: Very cold. About zero all day. Wind blew hard. No school today. Water pipe froze up over to mothers.

Feb 27: Cold and plesent. Zero tonight. Family well except Anna. She is doing well. No sleighing yet.

Feb 28: Cold and cloudy. Maurice cut hemlock logs on Procter’s in the afternoon. (Snowing hard tonight).

Mar 1: Warm in the mornining. Snowed all night and all this fournoon. Snow is 20 inches. Trains all late. Fred Harrison’s barn collaps{ed} under the weight of the snow. Wind is blowing some tonight. Colder. (Big snow storme)

Mar 2: Cold, wind blew hard all day. Snow is drifting bad. Anna was up today for the first. Late dinner with family.

Mar 3: Cold and plesant. Snow is very deep. Roads are getting broke out some. Side walks are well cleaned off.

Mar 4: Cold and cloudy. Attended Church in the morning. Ross drove me up to Ulysses in the afternoon so that I could take the morning train for Coudersport. Attended the M.E. Church in the eve. Roads bad. Snow very deep.

March 5 – 11, 1900

Mar 5: Cold, snowed some in the night. Took train for Coudersport. Court called at 2 in the afternoon. Board at Crawal house.

Mar 6: Cold. Set in court all day. Went up to glass factory in the evening. Grand sight.

Mar 7: Pleasent. Set in Court in the fournoon. Grand Jury discharged at noon. Came home in afternoon. Found family all well.

Mar 8: Plesent. Thawed some. Good sleighing. Snow very deep yet.

Mar 9: Warm and plesant. Thawing. I drove to Westfield in the afternoon. Road full of water holes. Family well. Anna up all day.

Mar 10: Cold and cloudy. Good sleighing.

Mar 11: Cold and cloudy. Family well. Anna and baby doing well.

March 12 – 18, 1900

Mar 12: Very cold. 10 below zero in the morning. Plesant all day. Warmer in the afternoon. Cold tonight. Run shop for the first time this year. Building a cupboard for C. James.

Mar 13: Cold this morning. Warm tonight. Run shop.

Mar 14: Cold & cloudy. Good sleighing. Run shop. Family usualy well.

Mar 15: Cold and cloudy. Good sleighing. Snowing some tonight. Found one of my sheep dead this morning. Don’t know the cause of it.

Mar 16: Cold and changeable. Wind & snow. Zero tonight. Family well.

Mar 17: Cold and windy. 4 below zero this morning. 12 below tonight. Family well as usual.

Mar 18: Cold in the morning. Warmer tonight. Rev. Clark sick. No preaching morning.

 

March 19 – 25, 1900

Mar 19: Warm, thawing fast. Raining tonight. Snow going fast.

Mar 20: Colder, rain over water quite high. Snow settled very much. Good sleighing yet. Henry Ellis buried today. Clara Emerson up at mother’s.

Mar 21: Cold, froze hard. Good sleighing. Run shop on {?} works for Hawks.

Mar 22: Warm and pleasent. Very nice day. Family all well.

Mar 23: Warm, very nice day. Thawing very fast. Snow settled very much. Sleighing thin.

Mar 24: Cold and wind. Roads getting mud{d}y. Mrs. Norm Procter buried today.

Mar 25: Cold in the morning, warmer in the middle of the day. I drove to Caunesque {Cowanesque} to buy fine lumber. Road rough.
